Aromatherapy

A truly ‘scentsational’ treatment...

Aromatherapy is just what the name implies, a wonderfully fragrant therapy that heals you on so many levels. It involves the use of volatile plant oils, which are known as essential oils, to bring about healing. Used in a therapeutic treatment they are gently powerful and can help with both emotional and physical conditions.

Essential oils consist of tiny aromatic molecules that are readily absorbed via the skin and from there enter the body where they can deliver their beneficial healing powers. The oils used are of a high and pure quality and are administered through gentle massage of the body with each blend of essential oils being completely ‘bespoke’ for you depending on your needs.

Your individual treatment will take into account the symptoms you are experiencing.

When you receive the gentle, soothing aromatherapy massage, this in itself will have a calming and healing effect on your body. Research has shown that during massage large amounts of endorphins are released into the bloodstream. When endorphins connect to receptor neurons, they reduce the intensity of pain in the body by naturally blocking pain signals produced by the nervous system.

Recent studies suggest that endorphins enhance the immune system, relieve pain and reduce stress, and when essential oils are part of a massage treatment the results can be even more effective.

The mind, which before massage can be in a perturbed, restless and even despondent state, then becomes calm, quiet, peaceful, and subdued after massage. It’s amazing how the subtle use of oils and massage transforms our minds into a restful, placid, and refreshed state.

To give some examples; oils such as chamomile, sweet marjoram, basil, eucalyptus, black pepper and lavender can be used to help relieve aches and pains in your muscles and joints.

When you feel low or depressed certain oils can help to uplift your mood; these can include bergamot, rose, orange blossom, ylang ylang and basil.

French Basil, peppermint, rosemary, clary sage and pine can all help with fatigue and nervous and mental exhaustion. Whilst nervous tension and stress can be helped with ylang ylang, chamomile, cypress, rose and bergamot.

Aromatherapy can help greatly with sleep problems, lavender and chamomile being two very effective, calming and sedative oils and if you suffer with digestive issues fennel, ginger, peppermint and chamomile will be of great support.

The blend that will be made just for you will be used during your treatment and you can then take the remainder home with you to carry on using.
